Where is Farsi spoken?

Farsi, also known as Persian, is mainly spoken in Iran (formerly known as Persia). It is the official language here. However, Farsi is also spoken in some minorities in Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
There are also Farsi-speaking communities in other parts of the world, such as the USA, Canada, Germany and other countries where Iranian diaspora communities live.

What is the difference between Farsi, Dari and Dari-Persian?

Farsi, Dari and Dari-Persian all refer to a language spoken in Iran, Afghanistan and some other countries in the Middle East region. The languages are merely variants of the same language and have slight differences.

“Farsi” is the Persian language spoken in Iran. It is the official language of the country and is spoken by around 60 million people as their mother tongue.

“Dari” is the Persian language spoken in Afghanistan. It is one of the two official languages of the country and is spoken by around 15 million people as their mother tongue. However, it has some differences to Farsi, such as differences in grammar and pronunciation.

“Dari Persian” is sometimes used to describe the variant of Persian spoken in Afghanistan to distinguish it from the variant spoken in Iran. It is essentially the same as Dari.

Professional and affordable Farsi interpreters?

Telephone interpreting and video interpreting is the flexible, safe, modern and cost-effective way of language mediation. Virtual Farsi interpreters work from home. This eliminates travel costs for the customer. In addition, interpreting in the form of virtual services can be billed by the minute. The price of a virtual interpreter’s service is therefore lower.

Advantage of a professional telephone interpreter and video interpreter for Farsi over a lay interpreter

Lay interpreters are people who have not undergone professional training as interpreters but are able to mediate between two languages, such as German – Farsi or German – Persian. They have knowledge of both languages but have no special training in interpreting techniques and methods.
Expert interpreters, on the other hand, have undergone special training as interpreters and have extensive knowledge of the languages they interpret as well as excellent communication and interpretation skills. They can translate complex matters in real time and have extensive knowledge of cultural differences and specialist terminology in their fields of work.
In general, it is always better to choose an expert interpreter for the job of interpreting as they have specialized training and skills that ensure greater accuracy and precision. They also have more experience in working with complex topics and can quickly adapt to different language styles and nuances.

Can a translation app like Microsoft Translator replace an interpreter for Farsi?

A translation app such as Microsoft Translator or online Farsi translators can provide a quick and rough translation from Farsi. However, they cannot replace a qualified Farsi interpreter. Compared to a digital translator, a language mediator can interpret the spoken Farsi in real time and translate it into the target language.
In addition to linguistic skills, trained interpreters also have social and intercultural skills, i.e. knowledge of interpersonal relationships and sensitivity in dealing with people, as well as knowledge of differences in culture and conventions between Germany and Iran. These advanced skills enable the oral “translators” to understand and interpret nuances and subtleties in the language, such as context-related or culturally sensitive terms or idioms.

What makes a professional Farsi telephone interpreter?

A professional Farsi interpreter knows and understands the technical terms and has medical background knowledge, which enables them to convey what they hear completely and accurately. At the same time, they can explain cultural differences.
