Social institutions and advice centers

A large number of aid organizations, advice centers and social services often do important and valuable work behind the scenes. The topics for which suitable services are available are diverse and in view of the large number of refugees in Germany, who are often traumatized or have to deal with stressful fates, the work of people in this area is all the more important. Telephone and video interpreting makes an important contribution to ensuring that those affected and the people helping them really understand each other. Counseling centers for pregnancy and pregnancy conflict offer support during pregnancy and around birth. They advise and support women and couples in pregnancy conflict, but women, men and couples can also seek advice on sexuality, family planning and childbirth regardless of whether they are already pregnant. As many of those affected do not have sufficient command of the German language, interpreters contribute to understanding on all sides.

Under the name of city missions, there are now regional church staff congregations, various diaconal works and facilities as well as pastoral and missionary initiatives.
City missions are subject to constant change. They react flexibly to the respective social and spiritual emergencies in their cities, always pursuing the goal of helping the poor and people on the margins of society.

The term community interpreting refers to interpreting for families or individuals in the social sector. This often involves assistance for refugees or immigrants, with authorities, social welfare offices and in court. In Germany, the term community interpreting is roughly equivalent to the term official interpreting.
